ECOWAS Organizes Capacity Building for National Experts to Enhance Nutrition Integration into National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIP)

The ECOWAS Commission, via the Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development, held a key workshop with the goal of enhancing the abilities of national experts to incorporate nutrition, focusing particularly on the National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIP). This important event took place at the Rose Blanche Hotel in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, from the 4th to the 8th of March 2024.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mrs. Fatmata Lucia Seiwoh, ECOWAP/CAADP Monitoring & Evaluation Programme Officer, Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), ECOWAS COMMISSION, on behalf of the President of the ECOWAS commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, the ECOWAS commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs. Massandje Toure Litse and the  Director of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Alain Sy Traore who emphasized the importance of the workshop to enable national experts integrate nutrition into their national agricultural investment plan.

The workshop achieved the following specific objectives:

  1. Raised awareness about gaps in terms of nutrition integration into NAIP by member States.

  2. Strengthened member States capacity on the important aspects of nutrition integration.

  3. Briefly defined the next steps for better integration.

Participants collaborated on the development of a post-workshop action plan, assigning responsibilities and setting deadlines for implementation. Through group work and facilitated discussions, participants worked towards the formulation of concrete post-training strategies and initiatives to advance nutrition integration into NAIP

The regional workshop afforded national experts the chance to bolster their capabilities in weaving nutrition into their National Agricultural Investment Plans.
