The integration of nutrition, beyond nutrition programmes and policies, by other relevant sectoral policies is still an important challenge. In this context, ECOWAS has conducted a diagnostic study of the integration of nutrition in sectoral public strategies and policies with a focus on agricultural policies (National Agricultural Investment Plan and Regional Agricultural Investment Plan).
This study aims to establish a global agenda for the integration of nutrition in agricultural policies with a focus on the NAIPs.
A broader regional validation workshop of the nutrition integration agenda and the development of a roadmap together with other IGOs and other partners was organized from 13 to 17 February 2023 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
The objectives of the workshop were to: (i) to review the revised report of the diagnostic study on the integration of nutrition, (ii) to review the revised regional agenda of the integration of nutrition in agricultural policies with a focus on the NAIP and the RAIP, (iii) to elaborate a common roadmap between CILSS and ECOWAS and the other partners involved in nutrition, (iv) to propose the clear roadmap.
This validation workshop was attended by several partner institutions involved in nutrition such as (CILSS, FAO, WFP, UNICEF) as well as ECOWAS member states namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Mali and Togo.
The main outcome of this workshop is the finalization of the regional nutrition integration agenda and the common roadmap.
